A low-pressure system hovering off Florida’s east coast is being closely watched for possible tropical development this week. The National Hurricane Center assigns it a 30% chance to strengthen into a tropical depression or storm over the next seven days.
As of Monday, scattered showers and disorganized thunderstorms are sweeping the region, with forecast models showing the system tracking westward across Florida and into the northeastern Gulf by late Tuesday. Conditions there could favor additional intensification.
Heavy rain is expected for much of Florida and the north-central Gulf Coast beginning mid-week, increasing risks of localized flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
Tampa Bay residents can anticipate recurring downpours, thunderstorms, and sweltering heat, with temperatures near 92°F and heat indices topping 100°F. Staying alert and prepared is advised—the forecast calls for both more rain and updates as the situation develops.
